One of the most volatile controversies arose in 2021 when fans recognized that Opiumud had used AI voice cloning to mimic the voices of actual English and Japanese voice actors (e.g., Tara Strong, Maaya Sakamoto) without permission. The studio did not credit these actors nor pay licensing fees.
